Civic body unable to check spread of dengue in Siliguri: TMC protesters

Trinamool Congress supporters staged a demonstration on Monday outside Siliguri Municipal Corporation protesting against the failure of the civic body to check the spread of dengue.

The party workers were found carrying mosquito nets and placards criticising Mayor Asok Bhattacharya.

The agitators claimed that the Corporation had hardly taken any step to check the spread of the disease in the area.

There was garbage found dumped at different places including important installations like hospitals, schools and colleges.

The protestors also demanded the resignation of the Mayor saying that he had not taken any step to contain the disease.

They also raised various issues which went unheard by the civic body despite repeated requests. They even claimed that the residents of the area under the jurisdiction of the civic body were being deprived of the benefits of the lackadaisical attitude of the Municipal Corporation.

The civic body had not sent any of its employees or teams to check the breeding ground for mosquitoes as it had been done by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation earlier, the Trinamool Congress workers alleged.
