City’s temperature to come down in 48 hours: MeT

Bringing much respite to the city dwellers from the excessive summer heat, Alipore Meteorological Department has predicted that the temperature in around the city will drop within 48 hours.

However, the heatwave alert remains for Bankura, Purulia, Burdwan and Birbhum, as per the prediction of the MeT department. There is a possibility of rains in Murshidabad, Nadia and some districts in North Bengal. It may be mentioned that the hot and humid conditions will prevail in Birbhum and other six districts which will go to poll on Sunday. But according to the weather office during the Phase III elections, scheduled to take place in Burdwan, Murshidabad, Nadia and Kolkata on April 21, the temperature is likely to drop. In previous two elections in the state, people had to cast their votes amidst hot and humid conditions. According to the MeT department, there is no possibility of advent of Nor’wester in the state as of now. The temperature in the city has already dropped to 37 degree Celsius much below than what the city had recorded in past few days. In last four days the temperature remained around 40 degree Celsius. The city on Saturday recorded the lowest temperature of 28 degree Celsius, much lower than that it was in past few days.  In view of the rising heat in last couple of days, the Alipore Zoo authorities had taken some steps to give some respite to the animals. According to a senior official of the Alipore Zoological Garden, ORS and Vitamin tablets were being administered to the animals. Monkeys, chimpanzees and some other animals have also been distributed fruits to keep them in good health. Bears which are in distress due to excessive heat are being provided with curd along with rice.
