City witnesses light rainfall, mercury dips

The city witnessed cold breeze after light to moderate rain was recorded at various parts on Wednesday afternoon. The Regional Meteorological Department at Alipore said moderate rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours.

The sky remained cloudy on Wednesday morning. Minimum temperature in the city was 23 degree Celsius, five degrees above normal. Met department predicted that temperature will fall by some degrees. A low pressure area was developed over Bay of Bengal that had caused rainfall the city and its adjoining areas.

A senior official in the Alipore Met department said two low pressure areas were earlier created in Madhya Pradesh that might have led to another low pressure above Bay of Bengal.

The weather office also said that there was no prediction of cold wave in the city in next few days. The sky may remain overcast in some parts of the state on Thursday. There was moderate rain in the city’s adjoining districts including North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Hooghly and Howrah.

South Bengal districts may see light to moderate rainfall in the next 24 hours, Alipore Met office predicted.
