City to get 22 more industrial areas

After a green signal to regularise unauthorised colonies the city, the government received one more shot in the arm from Delhi Development Authority [DDA] on Monday.

The agency has notified the guidelines to redevelopment 22 areas as industrial clusters in the city. These industries were to be shut down according to a High Court order of 1996, but now they will be developed again.

‘As per the government directions, areas with industrial concentration of more than 70 per cent have been declared industrial clusters,’ said Sanjeev Ahuja, Executive Director of Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation [DSIIDC].

‘We are in talks with developers for development of these clusters to provide space for industrial units and attract more entrepreneurs in these areas,’ added Ahuja.

At presently, two clusters - Swarn Park, Mundka and Mundka South and Mundka Phirni - have signed MoUs with DSIIDC whereas active consultations are on with Anand Prabat Industrial Area for this purpose.

The willing agencies will have to sign Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] with DSIIDA . The residential areas falling in the industrial clusters will also be retained.

‘DDA has notified regulations and guidelines for redevelopment of industrial clusters in the city. Once the process is initiated, 22 such clusters will witness substantial improvement,’ said Ramakant Goswami, Minister of Industries and Labour, Delhi government.

‘The project will give opportunities to entreprenuers and also create lakhs of jobs for youths in the city,’ added Goswami. The government also recommended redevelopment of those residential areas as industrial where there is a large-scale concentration of industrial units. The guidelines of DDA include lay out, greenery and safety norms.

As per the guidelines of DDA, the DSIIDC has offered the clusters an option to either start redevelopment themselves or sign an MoU with DSIIDC. The redevelopment plan will have to be prepared individually by each cluster, which will then have to get it approved by the local authority concerned.

The development will have to be completed within three years from the date of approval of such plan.

The 22 clusters notified after due survey are Samaipur Badli, Shahdara, Anand Parbat, Jawahar Nagar, Sultanpur Mazra, Hastsal Pocket-A, Naresh Park Extension, Libaspur, Peeragarhi Village, Khayala, Hastsal Pocket-D, Shalimar Village, New Madoli, Nawada, Rithala, Swaran Park Munka, Haidarpur, Karawal Nagar, Dabri, Basai Darapur, Prahladpur Bangar, Mundka South and Mundka Phirni.
