City records fourth dengue death this year

The national Capital recorded its fourth dengue death this year when an 18-year-old boy succumbed to the vector-borne disease, authorities said here on Friday.

The boy, a resident of Khichripur in East Delhi, was admitted to the Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital on September 8 with fever and vomiting. He died on September 9, even as samples of the boy’s blood were taken for tests and dengue confirmation was awaited. According to Amita Saxena, medical superintendent of LBS hospital, the youth tested positive in the ELISA test. “The boy died of severe fever and dengue shock syndrome,” Saxena said.

She said the boy’s platelet count had also dropped to 38,000, following which he was shifted to the intensive care unit. Despite that, his condition deteriorated and suffered cardiac arrest.
