City may witness rain in next 48 hours, says MeT office

The MeT office had earlier predicted that the city’s temperature would remain at 37 degrees Celsius and there was also a prediction of thundershower in parts of the city during the day.

But as the day progressed, the city witnessed weather with higher level of humidity and temperature.
At 6 am the city’s temperature was around 30 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity was as high as
89 per cent.

People in the city and the districts felt the sultry weather with the day’s progress.Due to high level of humidity people were badly perspiring during their regular activities. It was unbearably hot around noon.
The combined effect of high temperature and humidity made it feel like over 40 degrees Celsius.

The scorching sun made the day extremely unpleasant and people were seen coming out on the streets with pieces of clothes tied around their faces to shield themselves from the sun rays. The temperature early in the afternoon stood at 40 degrees Celsius but it felt like nearly 50, according to Accuweather.

But as per the Alipore MeT office, the city had witnessed around 37 degrees Celsius during the day. The temperature had gone up as the dry and hot air was entering the state from the West. People in the city are eagerly waiting for some rain. Though, the weather office predicted that the parts of the city and suburb will receive rainfall in the next 24 hours.

But the MeT office’s prediction of thundershower turned out to be futile as there was no rain in the city till Saturday night as a result of which people had to face uncomfortable weather.

A blanket of light clouds covered most parts of the city and thereby stopping the moisture from floating out. This had led to the formation of a local low pressure but it is not strong enough to bring in shower in the city.
