City gets first ever pet-friendly restaurant in Tollygunge

With the concept of pet-friendly restaurants hitting off in big cities, Kolkata gets its first pet friendly restaurant, The Love Room, which has come up on Tollygunge Circular Road.

The restaurant not serves breakfast, lunch and dinner for the pets but also makes available for them a playing arena where they can mingle with their friends.

All the pet owners have to do is carry the recent vaccination cards with them and bring their pets leashed. The food for the owners and their pets come in a package and there is both vegetarian and non vegetarian diet for the pets.

Ankush and Shruti, owners of the restaurant are pet lovers and have nine pets that include a Golden Retriever, Lhasa, cocker spaniel etc.

Ankush said that the pet lovers could come and sit with their pets in the restaurant which is a popular concept in the Western countries. For the pet lovers, they can play with the nine pets that are kept in the arena. 

“Pets help to get over loneliness and so after taking food, people can spend some time with them. The pets which are brought by the owners can also play with their friends,” he said adding “Though the concept of entering a restaurant with pets is new to the city, but its popularity is increasing. Pet lovers are coming with their pets regularly.”

The ambience of the restaurants and the arrangements of lights have been designed in such a way that it gives a soothing effect to the owners as well as the pets. The food is delicious and within a few seconds the pets finish up their food and look for more.

Subhas Sarkar, a well know vet in the city welcomed the idea saying, “Such a move will keep the dogs happy. In many homes, the pets hardly get any chance to go out because of hectic schedule of the owners and they often feel lonely. But if they are taken to a restaurant then they will feel happy”.

Pet owners also welcomed the move. Apurba Banerjee, a pet lover said “Now we can approach the mayor Sovan Chatterjee or the Urban development minister Firhad Hakim requesting them to allot a space where we can take our pets.”
