City celebrates International Yoga Day

The International Yoga day was observed with great enthusiasm in the city and its suburbs. Various state and central government agencies and private companies, schools and colleges celebrated the day where doctors and physical culturists urged the participants to practice yogic exercises for a stress-free life.

In Upasanasthal, in New Town International Yoga day was observed by the senior citizens. Debashis Sen, chairman of West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) took part in the programme. There is a senior citizen’s park in New Town where Yoga classes are held every weekend.

The day was observed with enthusiasm in Kshudiram Anushilan Kendra under the department of AYUSH. Hundreds of schoolchildren and representatives of various Yoga centres took part in the activities. Veteran body builder Tushar Sil conducted the programme. He said Yoga can help people lead a trouble-free life. Guru Prasad Banerjee, fitness expert said Yoga help people to stay young and enjoy life bit by bit. It improves concentration and reduces stress without medicine.  

The South Eastern Railway organised a Yoga Event on the occasion of International Day of Yoga at BNR Officers’ Club, in Garden Reach, on Tuesday.

Representatives of Vyakti Vikas Kendra, Kolkata and Howrah Yoga Kendra demonstrated different yoga techniques to all staff and officers of South Eastern Railway. The International Day of Yoga was also observed at all the four Divisions of South Eastern Railway.

Eastern Railway celebrated ‘International Day of Yoga’ at its headquarters, Fairlie Place. Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Tuesday participated in a yoga programme at Esplanade area in the heart of the city as part of several events held here to celebrate the second International Yoga Day.

Governor K N Tripathi also attended the yoga programme in which the Union minister participated along with school students and other people. It was held at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in Esplanade area from 7.00 am.

In another programme, hundreds of NCC cadets performed yoga exercises at the Maidan to mark the day. Yoga asanas and exercises were also performed at several schools and clubs. The day was celebrated in the districts with many educational institutions and other private organisations holding programmes to mark the day.
