CID officials arrests man for operating girl trafficking racket

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a man from Joynagar in South 24-Parganas on Sunday night on charges of operating a girl trafficking racket.

A CID officer said the accused Kasem has connection with members of the racket in different parts of the country including Delhi, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

He often used to visit the villages in these states. He returned to his Joynagar residence on Sunday after a long time.

Acting on a tip-off, CID officers along with policemen from local police station conducted a raid at his residence. Police found him sleeping when they conducted the raid. He initially posed himself as a mason to skip the arrest. But police had his portrait parley that helped them to identify Kasem.

Police came to know that some people work under him as agents and their main task is to take away girls after assuring them jobs. The agents used to hand over the girls to Kasem after taking them outside the state. They basically target girls from poor families.

CID came to know about Kasem in October 2015 after a 14-year-old girl from Joynagar was trafficked. Police had later rescued the girl from Kalka Mail and arrested a youth, who was trafficking the girl after assuring a job in Delhi.

During the interrogation, the youth revealed Kasem’s name. Since October 2015, CID officers were searching for him. CID offices feel that they Kasem may reveal the names of other of the gang. CID officers would also contract investigating agencies of other states after interrogating Kasem.
