Chitrangada still not over 'Geeta Rao'

Chitrangada still not over Geeta Rao
Chitrangada Singh had made an unforgettable foray into Bollywood in 2003 as the stunning Geeta Rao in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi.

Nine years have passed but the lady is still struggling to get over the aura of her maiden character.

'I don't know if I have still managed to make people forget Geeta Rao and remember another character that I have played,' she told reporters at the launch of the Indian issue of Vogue magazine.

'I am still kind of struggling to get over it and make people remember me by something else that I have played. I think it's still the most special one,' said Chitrangada.

Such a thing does not happen with actors who make insipid or unforgettable debuts,  but for Chitrangada, the debut game had her making quite a mark in Bollywood.

Geeta Rao, her character, was a London-returned, South Indian girl in love with the firebrand Siddharth [Shiney Ahuja]. After a very sheltered life, she learns to explore the terrain of the Indian sociopolitical landscape. While she finds Siddharth's Naxalite rhetoric attractive, she is not sure if she can wholeheartedly subscribe to it.

Married to golfer Jyoti Randhawa, Chitrangada had taken a break to start a family after her debut, but returned to Bollywood with the not-so-successful Sorry Bhai, critics' pick Yeh Saali Zindagi, and the movie that gave her sexy image a leg-up, Desi Boyz.

Chitrangada says however that acting was never one of her ambitons. 'I started with something like that and I didn't plan my Bollywood career. I did not want to be an actress, never thought I would be here. It came my way and it just went off really well,' said the 35-year-old.

What does the next step in Bollywood look like for the actress? 'My next release is I, Me Aur Main which has John [Abraham] and Prachi [Desai] with me in the film. It is about a woman who kind of realises the man is not quite committed to the relationship and what does she do about it,' she said.

'My second film is actually a very strange love story. It is opposite Arjun Rampal and directed by Sudhir Mishra. It is set in a sexual harassment case but it's about two people who have been in love but are now stuck in this case and what happens to them and their life,' she added.

Chitrangada will also be seen in a sexy item number in Joker.
