Chit fund: CPI(M) will gherao CBI office today

CPI(M) will gherao CBI office at CGO complex in Salt Lake on Wednesday demanding arrest of those who are involved in chit fund.

CPI(M) has gone out of its way to make the programme a success. Party leaders have written to union Railway minister Suresh Prabhu to book four trains to bring their supporters to the spot. Hoardings carrying the photographs of Jyoti Basu have been put up in Salt Lake. Street corners and meetings have been held in different areas asking party workers to join the rally.

Party leaders alleged that CBI was trying to shield the real culprits and arrest of Sudip Bandopadhyay and Tapas Pal, two Trinamool MPs were just a tip of the iceberg.

Former housing minister Gautam Deb said CBI was not properly conducting investigation.

Political experts felt after failing to organise cadres, this was the last attempt of the party. In most areas the party had failed to open the offices of local and zonal committees. Many party workers did not renew their memberships and the party is facing acute financial crunch. The meetings organised by the leaders have failed to attract them.

However, the last two meetings addressed by Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee including the one to celebrate the golden jubilee of party organ Ganashakti had attracted many youth. Hoping that Bhattacharjee is still a crowd puller, party leaders have invited him to attend Wednesday's meeting.
