Children survive murder attempt by parents’ killers

A gruesome tale of murder has emerged with the police nabbing two murderers, who killed a couple, Shivaji Nayak and his wife and threw their two children into a deep valley in the forests of Anmod Ghat and left them to die. However the minor children –a boy and a girl have survived to tell the tale and that aided the police to nab the killers.

Police said the children were discovered by Diago D’Souza and his driver in the early hours of 14 May while they were returning from Karnataka to Goa via Anmod Ghat. The children, who were found within two kms from each other and were naked.

They were then taken to the police outpost at Mollem where an offence was registered for kidnapping and murder. The cops swung into action and, within six hours, managed to nab both the accused – whom the children called Patrav (Osban Fernandes) and Maratho (Ramesh Bagve).

Further investigations revealed that the duo Patrav and Maratho had killed Osban’s labourer Shivaji Nayak and buried his body near his business site at Ribandar patto. They had then decided to kill the deceased’s wife and children and brought them in Osban’s car to Anmod Ghat where they were strangled, stripped of their clothes and thrown down the mountain at different locations in the valley.

However, the children survived and were picked up by the D’souza’s passing vehicle. After questioning Ramesh Bagve, the police recovered the bodies of parents and filed a murder complaint at Old Goa Police station.
