Children of inmates to meet their mothers inside special rooms

State Correctional home administration department decided to allow the children of women inmates to meet their mothers inside a specific room for a stipulated time so that the innocent children are not denied their motherly affection.

Till now, the children of the inmates can get to see their mother from a room which is separated from the room  by an iron net where his/her mothers were brought in. As a result of this the mothers could not physically meet the children. Quite often the children talked to the inmates from a distance and did not get the affection of their mothers.

Considering this, the correction home department has been planning to demarcate a particular room where the jail inmates will be allowed to meet their children. According to the sources, there will be a special arrangement in all the correctional homes across the state so that children and teenagers between age groups 5 to 18 will get an opportunity to meet their mothers from a close quarter.

On Saturdays and Sundays and holidays, the children of the jail inmates will get this opportunity to meet their mothers. A separate room would be there inside each correctional home for their meeting, sources said. Though, the visitors would have to take prior permission from the jail superintendent for this meeting. There will correctional home employees who will monitor the situation.

Earlier, the mothers were called and their children were taken to a room situated outside the enclosure where the mothers used to stand. As a result the inmates could not even touch their children properly while the little ones could not even talk to their mothers properly.

A senior official of the correctional administration department said that the move has been initiated to strengthen the bond of a mother-child relationship and to ensure that the children do not develop any ill feeling towards their mothers.
