Police arrested six persons including a doctor for their alleged involvement in child trafficking racket from Contai in East Midnapore late night on Monday.

It may be mentioned that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had arrested some doctors and people who run destitute homes after busting a child trafficking racket.

Besides the doctor, the police have also arrested an employee of a pathological laboratory - Neelkamal Das. Later, police arrested a local shop owner Bhabesh Das and Padmalochan Das.

The police initiated a probe after a resident of South Kolkata lodged a complaint with Bhowanipore police station. The complainant informed the police that a newborn baby was trafficked to Kolkata from Midnapore, a few days ago. After preliminary investigation, police came to know the name of the nursing home from where the baby was trafficked.

From them the investigating officers came to know about the alleged involvement of the doctor and an employee of a pathological laboratory. The police arrested the remaining four persons in this connection at late night. The police have also rescued the baby.

A police officer said they would question the arrested persons to know whether there was any link between them and the people who were arrested by the CID earlier. The police are also trying to ascertain that for how long they are involved in the racket and whether there were anyone else involved in it. The investigating officers would question some more persons from the nursing home to know the modus operandi of the accused.
