Chhath Puja: Delhi Police use helicopter to monitor traffic

Delhi Police used a helicopter for monitoring and regulating traffic in the trans-Yamuna region and canal banks in the city which are expected to witness huge gatherings on the occasion of Chhath puja on Tuesday.

Thousands of devotees thronged major ghats in the city on Tuesday — which includes Ghat near ISBT, Purvi Ghat, Hathi Ghat near ITO, Kudesiya Ghat, Shyam Ghat, Yamuna Ghat and Kalindi Kunj Ghat, among others — offering prayers to the Sun God.

“Once again we have used a helicopter to monitor and regulate traffic in Delhi, especially around the ghats and the roads leading to them,” said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander, who was himself present in the chopper supervising the operation.

The live traffic situation will be reported to the control room and the details shall be made available to the public through our helpline, Chander said.

Traffic monitoring through helicopter was done for the first time by Delhi Traffic Police on the day of
Durga idol immersion in October, and for the second time on Diwali eve.

Under this initiative, officials keep watch on the traffic scenario and inform personnel in the field through the wireless system, said a senior official.
