Charred body of housewife found in in-laws house

Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose charred body was found from her in-laws house in Ayushgram in Burdwan on Tuesday morning. Incident had spread tension in the village. Police said that the victim Chumki Majhi got married to Bapan Majhi of the Ayushgram nearly six months ago.
The victim’s in-laws and husband used to torture the victim as her father failed to pay dowry promised during the marriage. The victim had been subjected to both mental and physical torture in her in-laws house.

Local people on Tuesday morning found Chimki’s charred body lying inside the house. They took her to a nearby hospital where the doctors had pronounced her brought dead. Post mortem was being performed on the victim to ascertain the reason of her death.

Chumki’s family members told the police that she had been tortured at her in-laws house and used to demand the amount of dowry that they had failed to pay at the time of marriage. The members at the in-laws house called up her parental house and told them her condition was not good but when they came to her in-laws house they found their daughter dead.

The incident had triggered tension in the village. The local people also alleged that the woman had been beaten up by her husband.

Victim’s family members have lodged a complaint at the local police station on the basis of which the police have started an investigation. They are yet to arrest anybody in this connection so far.

Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits. Police said that the accused had fled from the spot immediately after the incident which had aroused suspicion that her in-laws might have been involved in the incident.
