Charge-sheet filed in MM Khan murder case

Delhi Police, on Thursday, filed a 41-page charge-sheet in the multi-layered contract killing of M M Khan, senior legal advisor of NDMC. All the seven accused including the owner of The Connaught Hotel have been charge-sheeted.

It is worth mentioning that the 41 pages of the charge-sheet do not mention names of BJP leader Maheish Girri and Karan Singh Tanwar, who were being accused by the AAP for their alleged involvement in the case. Delhi Police have earlier also given clean chit to the leaders and the charge-sheet proves that the duo was not involved in the case.

Call Detail Reports of all the accused corroborating their presence and communication during the time of the murder has also been enclosed with the charge-sheet.

M M Khan was shot dead in May this year while he was returning home, a day before he was about to give the final order on the lease terms of The Connaught Hotel, that was reportedly not in the favour of the hotel. Khan’s family had claimed that he was being pressurised to settle the 21-year-long legal battle related to tax clearance and lease terms of Rs 140 crore.

The owner of the hotel, identified as Ramesh Kakkar (45), had planned to eliminate Khan. He contacted his body guard Ram Phool and discussed the matter and contracted him for Rs 2 lakh and paid Rs 50,000 as advance. Ram Phool further contacted Israil with whom he used to work at Kakkar’s hotel in Greater Kailash as bouncers. But the hotel was closed and Israil left while Ram became Kakkar’s bodyguard.

Israil further contacted his cousin brother Saleem who was aware of the topography of Jamia Nagar area as he was a recovery agent of a finance company in that area. Saleem contacted one Amir who was a local criminal of that area and further Bilal and Anwar Omais were also involved in this plan through Amir. A recce was done and on May 16, the assailants followed Khan’s car on their motorcycle after he left his office and when the deceased reached near his house, one of the assailants broke the window glass of the car and fired at the deceased and escaped. The evidences related to the recce have also been mentioned in the charge-sheet, police said.
