C’garh to introduce vote verification system in polls

Electorate of Raipur Lok Sabha seat will be able to verify their votes with a new system attached to Electronic Voting Machines during the upcoming polls, an EC official said here on Monday.

For the first time, a Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system will be used in Chhattisgarh which will enable the voters to see the vote cast by them, Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Kujur said. Raipur Parliamentary constituency is among three Lok Sabha seats where VVPAT will be used in the coming general elections, he said. As soon as a voter casts his vote, the VVPAT will show a small slip on a glass covered screen with the symbol and the candidate he has voted for in the form of a small ballot paper, which after 3 to 4 seconds would automatically fall into an attached closed box, he said.
Collectors of two districts -Raipur and Balodabazar- which fall under the ambit of Raipur LS constituency have been asked to ensure preparation in connection with the use of VVPAT, he said.
