Centre stalling West Bengal’s development projects: Mamata

‘Development of Bengal cannot be stopped by hatching conspiracies. The Centre has stopped all money for Bengal’s projects,’ Banerjee told a rally here at Digha in East Midnapore district on Tuesday.

Continuing her tirade against the Narendra Modi government, she said, ‘They cannot compete with us in development, so they have become jealous (of the TMC government). They havestopped all money (for projects) for Bengal’.

‘The Left incurred debts. The Centre is taking away our revenue as instalments for the debt. The UPA government has done this and now the BJP government is doing the same,’ she said, asking why her government should be made to suffer for what the previous Left Front government had done.

Banerjee had asked the UPA Government for a moratorium on the state’s loans, in vain.

‘The money with which we will provide drinking water, build roads and give jobs, is being taken away from us (the state exchequer). Rs 1 lakh crore has been deducted from the state’s coffers towards loan repayment. Every year the amount is rising,’ Banerjee said. Despite this ‘financial crunch’, the government was working for the people, she said. ‘Bengal is No. 1 in 100 Days Work Scheme, Skill Development and MSME sector. We have started Kanyashree scheme to encourage girls to pursue studies and to prevent child marriage,’ she said.
