Celebrating Global Wellness

Virgil, an ancient Roman poet had once said, “The greatest wealth is health”. Shangri-La’s - Eros Hotel, celebrated Global Wellness Week, an international celebration of health and wellness with a session of aqua aerobics by renowned fitness trainer Kiran Sawhney on Tuesday, June 7. Global Wellness Day, which is celebrated throughout the world on the second Saturday of June, is based on the slogan “One day can change your whole life.”

Aqua aerobics offers multiple health benefits and helps in increasing the overall physical fitness, it helps in weight reduction and toning up the body. Additionally, aqua aerobics also ensures that the joints and the cardiovascular system are protected during the exercise.

Aqua Aerobics is perfect for the sweltering summer heat and makes the body feel refreshed and rejuvenated. A one-hour session of aqua aerobics can help burn up to 850 calories since water resistance increases the intensity of the exercise. The technical explanation for this, is that since water is 12-14 times thicker than air, the movements carried on in water create a greater impact on the body. The session starts with basic walking on the pool floor followed by cardio and core strengthening exercises. As opposed to other workout routines, aqua aerobics is a fun activity, which can be enjoyed by all age groups.

Kiran Sawhney’s aqua aerobics classes are available from June 3 on Tuesday and Friday evenings until July 31 at the Eros Hotel in the national Capital. The cost for the classes per session is Rs 1,000 per person. The session also incorporates aqua zumba which helps in burning calories and strengthens muscles.

It is a cardio as well as strength training workout that can be recommended to the ones having arthritis or other such joint problems.
