Celebrating festivity the Banarsi way

The art and craft showcased were in three categories-metal, pottery and weaving. Metal repousse craft, metal casting, stone craft were the main attractions, whereas the weaving section displayed  age old Banarsi traditional zardozi and aari work, handmade durrie, silk saree weaving, hand knotted carpet weaving and more.  The pottery on display was on red terracotta, famed pink Meenakari, hand-made beads.

The day also had an  live display of the techniques of the many crafts from in and around Varanasi followed a panel discussion on, ‘media and ethics’ with renowned panelist – Aniruddha Bahal, Ashutosh Shukla, Dilip Cherian, Jyotsna Bhatnagar, Kushan Mitra, Sankarshan Thakur and Suhasini Haider. A special lecture was also delivered by MJ Akbar on, ‘Should religion be included in school curriculum in India.

The session on Hindi Poetry was conducted by panelist- Ashok Bajpeyi, Gyanendrapati, Kedarnath Singh and Vyomesh Shukla. Also, Acharya Shreevats Goswami of Vrindavan delivered a talk on Music and Spirituality with special mention of Guru Haridas followed by mushaira performance at Benia Bagh organised by Shanhenshah Kamal.
