CBI recovers 2 kg gold from IRS officer’s bank locker

The CBI on Monday claimed to have recovered two kilograms of gold jewellery from one of the bank lockers of IRS officer Sanjay Kumar against whom the agency has registered a disproportionate assets case. The premises of Kumar, a 1991 batch IRS officer who is posted as Chief Accounts Officer at Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), and the offices allegedly owned by his wife were searched by the CBI last week. CBI officials said one of the bank lockers was opened on Monday and the agency sleuths recovered two kgs of gold ornaments. During searches last week, the CBI had claimed to have recovered property documents worth Rs 19 crore, bank documents showing deposits of Rs 74 lakh and one kg of gold jewellery.
