CBI probe in Yadav Singh’s case: UP govt moves Supreme Court

The high court had on July 16 ordered CBI probe into the case of alleged corruption by Singh on a PIL, filed by social activist Nutan Thakur, accusing him of amassing property disproportionate to known sources of his income.

In her PIL filed before the High Court, Thakur had given details of Income Tax raids on Yadav’s establishments in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad on November 27-28 last year and alleged recovery of illegal properties and sought a CBI probe into the matter.

She had alleged that she had filed a supplementary affidavit giving facts, including details of various alleged false companies floated by Yadav Singh for siphoning off illegal money.

The state government counsel had, however, opposed the PIL as not being maintainable and noted that the government had also constituted a judicial commission to probe the matter. The state government had suspended the Noida chief engineer on December 8, 2014.

Meanwhile, a day after CBI raids at various whereabouts of Yadav Singh, Noida Authority has lodged a police complaint against the tainted engineer and his associates.

The authority officials said that the police complaint was lodged in various sections for their alleged involvement in corruption cases during Singh’s tenure as a chief engineer of all three authorities.

According to the police, a case has been registered against Singh and his associates at Sector 20 police station under various sections of the IPC late on Monday night. Police said that Deputy GM of commercial and group housing department, Bipin Gaur, has lodged a complaint on behalf of the authority.

The complainant has said that Singh and his associates were indulged in corruption. “We have registered a case under Sections 409, 6/13 and others of IPC and have started investigating it,” said an official.

Meanwhile, police sources said that the state government, in order to investigate the matter properly, has asked to create a special team comprising senior officials from Lucknow.

It may be noted that investigating teams of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had carried out raids at as many as 14 whereabouts in several districts including Noida and Ghaziabad on Tuesday.
The CBI had also seized his bungalow located in Noida where the accused used to dwell.

The action was initiated after registering two cases of corruption and disproportionate assets against the tainted engineer, his family members and associates.

The CBI had informed to register both the cases against Singh and others including his family members and associates, on the earlier order of Allahabad High Court.
