CBI interrogates Madan Mitra at Alipore jail

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday interrogated the former Transport Minister Madan Mitra at Alipore Central Correctional Home in connection with the multi-crore Saradha Group scam.

The interrogation took place in front of Mitra’s counsel. CBI had pleaded before the court a few weeks ago that they want to interrogate Mitra in correctional home. The court had given permission to question the former minister within 31 December. Following the court’s order CBI officers went to the correctional home on Monday. Two CBI officers including the investigating officer questioned Mitra on Monday. Sources said they asked Mitra about his health and repeated some questions which they had asked him earlier quite a few times.

Mitra told the officers that he had already gave answers of the questions which they asked him on Monday. On asking the same question for the second time, Mitra repeated the same answers which he had given earlier. The interrogation continued for a couple of hours in the correctional home. Meanwhile, CBI is planning to interrogate some more “influential people” in connection with two separate cases of the chit fund scam of Saradha Group and Rose Valley Group.

According to the sources in the CBI, a high level meeting among top brass of the central investigating agency held this evening in this regard. It is learnt that a list has prepared that contain names of around 15 people and all of them need to be interrogated for “further investigation”.

Some out of the 15 people were already been questioned by the CBI earlier in similar connection. Sources said the senior officers of the investigating agency have decided to question them once again as after receiving certain information about their alleged involvement in the scam. The officers had got the information after questioning an “influential person” in their office at Salt Lake a few days ago.
