CBI completed enquiries in 14 Vyapam deaths: Govt in Parl

CBI has completed preliminary enquiries in 14 deaths related to Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (Vyapam) scam, Rajya Sabha was informed on Friday. Responding to a question, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pension, Jitendra Singh said the Supreme Court had on July 9, 2015 transferred 185 cases related to Vyapam scam to CBI.

“In addition, one RC (Regular case) and 15 PEs (Preliminary Enquiries) in deaths allegedly related to Vyapam scam were also registered, out of which enquiry in 14 PEs have also been completed,” he said while giving details of Vyapam cases registered by CBI.

The minister said 154 Vyapam cases were registered by CBI for further investigation, out of which final reports have been filed in 52 cases. “In 14 cases, CBI is conducting prosecution/trial without any further investigation. In seven cases, CBI has taken up the appeal proceedings filed by the accused persons against their conviction. In two cases, after judgment of acquittal, the matter was allowed to rest,” he said.
