CBI arrests BSNL General Manager in bribery case

The CBI has arrested a General Manager (GM) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra in a bribery case, involving Rs 2 lakh allegedly for clearing bills of contractors.

CBI sources said Subhash Kamble, GM, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg (Maharashtra) and a middleman, Tanveer, were arrested late Thursday night in connection with the case.

“A case was registered under Sections 7, 12 of PC Act and 120-B of IPC against a GM of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg (Maharashtra) and one private person. It was alleged that the GM, BSNL was demanding three per cent cut in the bills relating to contractors,” said CBI spokesperson RK Gaur.

Tanveer was allegedly helping in depositing the bribe money in a third party’s account to evade suspicion, he said. Gaur said the GM allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh and the private person subsequently accepted the bribe in the account of third party from the complainant. “The GM and private person have been arrested from Ratnagiri and Goa, respectively. Searches were conducted at the premises of accused persons in Ratnagiri, Sangli (both in Maharashtra) and Goa which revealed immovable and movable property documents, locker key, several ATM cards and gold,” he said.
