CAT exams begin

The Common Admission Test [CAT] for admission to IIMs and other B-schools began on Thursday. In comparison to last year, this year 1 per cent increment was seen in the number of candidates.  

A total number of 2,15,000 candidates have registered for the test. It  was conducted at 61 centres all over the country, and at 11 centres in NCR. It will continue for  21 days, between 11 October and 6 November. The test would be held in two sessions. The morning session will start at 10 am, and the candidates will have to reach the centres by 8.30 am for security check and verification. For the second session, which will start at 3.15 pm, candidates will have to report at their centres by 1.45 pm.

According to the premium B-school and Prometric, the software company that conducts the test online, the sale of vouchers and registration for the test has gone up by 4 per cent, as compared to last year.

The IIMs have also witnessed a marginal increase in the number of female candidates - from 27 per cent in 2011 to 28 per cent this year.

The results of the exam will be declared on 9 January 2013.
