Case enacted, accused taken to spots named in FIR

The entire incident of gang-rape in Park Street was enacted in the wee hours on Saturday by Kolkata Police sleuths who took prime accused Kader Khan and his accomplice Ali Khan to the spots named in the FIR by the victim to aid probe into the case.

“It (the enactment) started from the spot where the five accused picked up the victim on the night on February 6, 2012. We took them to all those places named by the victim in her FIR filed a couple of days after the incident,” a senior officer of Kolkata Police detective department said on condition of anonymity.

The duo, he said, was also taken to the spot near Rabindra Sadan named in the victim’s FIR as the place where she was thrown out of the car after being gang-raped.

It was learnt that Kader and Ali had told the sleuths during their grilling that they had hit the victim but had not raped her. Kader also denied carrying any firearms at the time of the incident.

Sources said that officers of the city police’s detective department questioned Kader under Section 161 CrPC as he was the prime accused in the incident.

The city police had arrested Kader and his henchmen Ali from Greater Noida on Friday.

The police have already questioned him in the past two days and got answers of many of their questions. But the police want to know each and every detail of the past four and a half years from Kader.

Sources said that Kader have been asked to narrate whatever had taken place since the time he had entered the restro-bar in a five star hotel on Park Street, where he had met Jordan.

“We have taken the statements of all the three youth who were arrested earlier and charge-sheet was also filed. But the version of the prime accused is important for reconstruction of the plot. However, it would take some time to go for reconstruction of the plot. Certain sections of the Indian Penal Code would need to get added in the supplementary charge-sheet,” said a police officer.

Teams comprising best officers had conducted raids at various places including Mumbai in the past four and half years after receiving information that Kader and Ali were staying there.

But the duo had become successful in evading the police and continued hopping from house of one relative to another.

The police have asked Kader and Ali to reveal the identity of the owners of the house where they had stayed.

The Kolkata Police have decided to give an award of Rs 1 lakh to the four members of the team including constable Sanjib Das who went to Greater Noida and arrested Kader and Ali.

Other members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) “will also get the award for their excellent job”.
