Carriers’ total Jan Domestic traffic flies 21%

Air passenger traffic in the country grew by 21.33 per cent in January over the year-ago period despite the domestic airlines clocking a reduced seat factor.

Indian carriers combined ferried 62.45 lakh passengers in the reporting month as compared to 57.47 lakh passengers carried by them in January 2014, according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) here on Thursday. During the month, budget carrier IndiGo cornered 36.4 per cent of the total domestic traffic, carrying 22.76 lakh flyers in January 2015.

The load factor of the airline during this period stood at 85.2 per cent. Jet Airways and Air India flew 12.25 lakh and 11.65 lakh passengers respectively.
