Carpet export promotion council repudiates report published in USA

Addressing a press conference at this burning issue Siddh Nath Singh, the chairman of CEPC, was of the view that it was a conspiracy against Indian handmade carpets to bargain the carpet traders in any way for the sake of the trade. He further said that the report published as ‘Tainted Carpets’ drew the attention of media at such extent that CNN channel aired an interview on 20 January 2014. Though ahead to the interview the leading carpet company OBEETEE was asked to put its version but the adequate time was not given at all to do so.

According the CEPC chairman, the notices already had been sent to the writer to give the details about the survey which could corroborate its findings. Raising the question over the report the carpet tycoon has said that before making any allegation it was the moral responsibility of the survey agency to seek the statement of the concerned officials of the Indian government as well as the traders which were targeted in the act of malign the image.

Smelling the conspiracy under the said survey VR Sharma, the MD of OBEETEE carpet company apprehended that it might be a plot to bargain the traders as it was committed about two decades ago in the name of the child laborers and the tainted elements itself exposed. Through the assiduous effort of concerned officials including CEPC the trade could get over from it.

He further revealed that not only CEPC but most of the trades are vigilant to follow the legal norms and CEPC was committed to enforce it at its own level to provide congenial atmosphere to the weavers as well as the artisans at each level of processing in carpet. He hoped from the union government too that it will do its best to protect the livelihood of more than 25 lakh people involved in the trade and be successful to thwart the vilificating designs of the anti national forces.
