Carjacking in posh Vasant Kunj

A south Delhi-based bank employee's car was allegedly carjacked by some unknown assailants, police said on Tuesday. The driver was forced to stay in the car at gunpoint in Vasant Kunj area on Sunday night. He was later robbed and was dropped at Moti Bagh.

Owner of the Innova car was identified as Vikas Gupta, who had just been dropped outside the Grand Hotel near a taxi stand when the incident took place, around 8.30 pm.

'The driver, identified as Narayan Mukiya, was listening to commentary on Indian Premier League (IPL) final match on radio when a man came to enquire about an address. He then suddenly pushed Mukiya on the passenger's seat and two other accomplices joined him,' said police.

The assailants were carrying a country-made pistol and a knife. Mukiya claimed one of them started driving towards Munirka, and they threatened him that they would kill him if he raised his voice.

'They asked Mukiya is any valuables were kept inside the car. They then took a bag that belonged to Ritika, Vikas's wife', the official added. They took away Mukiya's mobile along with his ATM card, PAN card, Ritika's BlackBerry phone, credit cards and identity cards. They then dropped Mukiya in Moti Bagh. Mukiya then informed Vikas, who later picked him up.

A case of robbery has been registered against the three unidentified persons over a statement of Narayan.

'Mukiya has been was working with Vikas's family for the last four years', said the official.
