Car sales on the dip, Maruti an exception

Car-maker Ford India on Monday reported 8.29 per cent decline in its total sales in September this year at 9,418 units.

The company had sold a total of 10,270 units in the same month last year.

Domestic sales also declined marginally to 7,794 units in September this year as against 7,801 units in the same month last year, Ford India said in a statement.

The company's exports saw a decline of 34.22 per cent to 1,624 as against 2,469 units in the same month last year.

General Motors India too on Monday reported 26.78 per cent decline in its sales for September this year at 7,403 units.

The company had sold 10,112 units in September 2011, General Motors India said in a statement.

The company sold 254 units of small car Spark, 4,539 units of hatchback Beat and 320 units of sedan Cruze last month. It also sold 2,136 units of multi-purpose vehicle Tavera during the month. The company did not share the sales numbers of its models Aveo, Optra and Captiva.

Tata Motors also on Monday reported 3.82 per cent decline in its total vehicle sales to 75,773 units in September.

The company had sold 78,783 units in the same month last year, Tata Motors said in a statement.

Chennai-based two-wheeler maker TVS Motor Company reported 22.46 per cent decline in its total vehicle sales in September at 1,70,097 units.

The country’s largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India however, on Monday reported 9.84 per cent increase in total sales at 93,988 units for September. In September, Maruti recorded a domestic sales of 88,801 units compared to 78,816 units in the year-ago period.
