Car parking blues for Noida residents

The problem of a lack of parking space and illegal parking has become a menace in Noida. The moment one enters the Sector 18 market, which is situated at the heart of the city, one notices that cars are parked wherever suitable space is found.

Despite thousands of shops and offices, the area remains jam-packed. The situation worsens during the peak hours and on weekdays. The scenario is the same at Sector 62, 12, 22, Rajnigandha Chowk, Gol Chakkar, Mamura Chowk, where the problem of a lack of parking facilities has aggravated. Another major issue that annoyed commuters is illegal parking in the city.

‘My office is on the fourth floor of the Ocean Complex building. Each day I struggle to park my car and not just that the parking attendants also sometimes misbehaves and charge extra. We have to listen to them as we have no other option or authorised space for parking’, said Mukul Arora, a real estate agent.

Sonam Vardhan, who often comes to watch a movie or for shopping at Sector 18, faces the same problems. She said, ‘Firstly, there is no space for parking and then parking attendants charge according to their wish. The entire stretch is crammed and cars are illegally parked everywhere on the roads. It takes us a lot of times in commuting as the roads are fully jam-packed due to the presence of illegally parked vehicles on the roads’.

When Millennium Post contacted Manoj Rai, Officer on Special Duty, Noida Authority,  about rampant parking and traffic issues, he said that there was no space mentioned for parking lots in the initial master plan. He added that taking into account the seriousness of the issue, the authority has announced the construction of many multi-level parking lots in the city.

‘We are well aware of parking issues that people have to face on a daily basis but soon they will receive respite from this problem. We are constructing a six-storey parking lot with the capacity to accommodate 4,000 vehicles in Sector 18,’ said Rai.

The OSD informed that two more multi-storey parking lots would be constructed at Botanical Garden Metro station and Sector 15. These huge parking lots will be completed within three years.  While parking lots will take three years to construct, shoppers and commuters have to shell out money for illegal parking.
