Car Free Day to be held on Oct 22 from 7 am to 12 noon

Delhi government on Thursday said ‘Car Free Day’, an initiative to encourage people to use public transport in the national Capital will be observed on October 22 from 7 am to 12 noon on the stretch falling between the Red Fort and India Gate.

Transport minister Gopal Rai said the government proposes a cycle rally on that day in the morning on the car-free stretch.

Rai on Thursday held a meeting with officials from transport department, DTC, DIMTS, Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Police, DMRC, DPCC, PWD, MCD, NDMC, ASI, ITDP and representatives of EMBARQ. “Government will ensure that no car is allowed to ply between the stretch falling between the Red Fort and India Gate on October 22. We will deploy 20 DTC buses as shuttle service between Red Fort and India Gate to facilitate people,” Rai told reporters here.
