Cancer patient brutalised over petty argument

A cancer patient was beaten up following a scuffle over parking of a motorbike at Belur in Howrah late Sunday night. Police arrested one Ramesh Giri in this connection.

A police officer said that the victim, Sk Miraj Ali, who has been suffering from cancer for the past few years, went to a pan shop Sunday night on his motorbike.

The accused Giri was standing near the pan shop with another friend Akash Singha.

The right foot of the victim touched Singha when the former was getting down from his motorbike and it led to an altercation.

Though, Miraj apologised for the mistake, the accused started abusing him.

The two then started beating Miraj up when he protested against abusing him for such a pretty matter. They beat him up mercilessly till he fell on the ground.

Miraj ran into an adjacent sweet shop to protect himself. Giri too entered the shop and broke a glass bottle of cold drinks on the head of the cancer patient.

Finding him bleeding profusely, the accused fled the place, while the victim was writhing in pain and lying in a pool of blood.

Local traders informed the police about the incident and policemen from Belur police station rushed to the spot and took Miraj to TH Jaiswal Hospital.

Later, he was shifted to a private hospital in the city with severe injuries on his head.

Police have collected footage from surveillance cameras in which they had found a person dragging Miraj by his collar and then beating him up.
