Canards spread by Cong, CPI(M) won’t affect TMC’s popularity: CM

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said her party would get more votes because of the canards spread by the Congress and the CPI(M) along with her character assassination.

Banerjee was addressing a rally here in support of her party nominees on Tuesday afternoon.

“The only business of Congress and CPI(M) is now to spread canard against Trinamool Congress and do my character assassination. Our party will get more votes as long as they continue to do this,” she said.

Banerjee said it was unfortunate that instead of talking about development carried out by the state government, the Opposition had started spreading canard against the party.

“They are using all sorts of unparliamentary language and are calling me a thief. This is unjustified and people will give them a befitting reply in the ballot,” she said, adding “never in the past such language was used by any leaders”.

Banerjee said her government had to pay interest of loan which was taken by the then Left Front government in the past three decades.

“They had taken loan without doing a single development work and we had to pay interest on the loan. But because of proper planning we could do such development work which had not be carried out in the past three decades,” she said, adding but despite that the CPI(M) leaders had not stopped talking and criticising her party.

Banerjee said roads in Howrah had been improved along with better street lights. She said the state government had started providing free treatment at state-run hospitals and people were getting medicines at fair price shops. Forty one super specialty hospitals have been constructed in the districts and this will give benefits to the people.

Khadyasathi, by which people are getting Rs 2 per kg rice, is helping more than 7 crore people.

Kanyashri has helped women to carry on with their education, while Sabujsathi has helped students to go to their schools by riding bicycles.

“Trinamool Congress is a pro-people party and interest of all cross-sections of people has been looked into,” she said.

Criticising BJP, she said the leaders were coming to the state and talking big. But the party had not explained why fund allocation had been reduced drastically.

She said when the election results were out, the Congress, the CPI(M) and the BJP would be extinct.

“People will reject them as they are trying to bring back violence and divide the state and create communal riots,” she said.

She urged people to cast their vote in favour of the Trinamool Congress to carryout development projects.
