Campaigning gains momentum

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi attended election meetings in Kukshi and Sidhi while BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi addressed election rallies in Satna, Shahdol, Singrauli and Jabalpur.

BSP leader Mayawati attended public meetings in Gwalior and Indore. Union ministers Kamlanath, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Sushma Swaraj, and film actress Hema Malini, Smriti Irani and Raj Babbar also campaigned for their respective parties the Madhya Pradesh. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed election meetings using holographic 3-D technique.

Political experts say that the tribal votes play a decisive role in Mahakaushal region of the state.
There are in all 38 assembly segments in the Mahakaushal, out of which BJP had won 22 and Congress had won 16 segments in the last elections.

Speaker Ishwardas Rohani and deputy speaker Harvansh Singh, who represented this region in the state assembly, are no more and their sons are contesting from their traditional seats in this election. Four ministers of the BJP government including Ajay Vishnoi and Gaurishankar Bisen are tryning their luck from Mahakaushal. Both BJP and congress are facing infighting within the party on some seats.

BSP, SP, NCP Gaundwana Gantantra Party and some smaller parties have the potential to affect the chances of BJP and Congress on some seats. Road connectivity to remote areas, inadequate drinking water supply, lack of education facilities are some of the poll issues in the region. Some districts of the region, including Balaghat are affected by the Maoists.

In Mizoram, with just four days left for the upcoming polls to the 40-member Mizoram assembly scheduled for the 25 November, campaigning is at its peak now. Political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters, including Facebook and mobile phones apart from door to door campaigning. In the meantime, all the political parties gave a thumbs up signal to EVMs after completion of the second mock poll trial.

All parties are now satisfied with the use of EVMs and agreed that these machines are reliable and that there is no room for manipulation. All the presiding officers and polling officers have been trained on proper handling of EVMs and practical use of Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), to be used for the first time in Mizoram general elections.

BJP president Rajnath Singh has said that there is no substance in charges of snooping against Narendera Modi. Rajnath Singh said while talking to mediapersons at Jaipur on the occasion of releasing the party manifesto for assembly elections in Rajasthan. He criticised the UPA government for alleged failure on fronts of economic, diplomatic and internal and external security.

Rajnath Singh addressed three election rallies in Rajasthan on Wednesday. State BJP president Vasundhra Raje and chief minister Ashok Gehlot are campaigning for their candidates in different parts of the state.

Wednesday was the last day for withdrawing nomination papers for the Delhi assembly polls. Nomination papers of 900 candidates, including those from Congress, BJP and AAP have been found valid after scrutiny. In total 1,110 candidates had filed their nominations for the 70-member assembly. Polling in the national capital will take place on the 4 December and counting on the 8 December.
