Calm amidst fresh verdict

Contrary to  expectations, Batla House on Thursday largely remained calm after a Delhi court announced that accused Shahzad Ahmed was guilty of the murder of Delhi police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was killed in an encounter on 13 September 2008. Delhi police had taken precautionary measures of barricading the area and increasing patrolling as in the past several rounds of protests were held – first against the encounter and second against the arrest of Shahzad Ahmed.

There was also a large deployment of cops in the neighbouring Jamia Nagar area too. Though the barricading and deployment of cops led to long traffic snarls in the area, the monitoring remained very tight till about an hour after announcement of the order.
