Police said the victim Hafizul Khan was a resident of the same area where the incident took place. His house is situated at a distance of around 500 metre from the deserted place where he was lynched.
Khan, who was a lichi trader, was returning home last night after collecting money from market. He stopped at a tea stall and gossiped with some local people over a cup of tea before heading home.
He had to pass through a poorly illuminated deserted place to reach his home. The miscreants were well aware of his daily routine and kept a watch on him when he was drinking tea at the stall.

They followed him from the tea stall. He was stopped by the miscreants when he reached the deserted place and they asked him to hand over his handbag. When he refused they started beating him up. They continued thrashing him till he fell unconscious and they fled with the money.

His family members were worried as he didn’t return home till late night and initiated a search. His neighbours also joined them. They later found the body at the deserted place and he was bleeding profusely. Local people took him to hospital where he was declared brought dead, The incident led to panic in the area and local people staged a demonstration outside the local police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused. They also put up a road block that led to massive traffic congestion in the area.

The road block was withdrawn after senior police officers intervened and assured necessary steps to arrest the culprits.
