Businessman shot dead in Khardah

A businessman was shot dead when he was returning home from his shop at Khardah in North 24 Parganas on Sunday night.

Police said the victim Irfan Hossain was a resident of Khardah and he was returning home on his motorbike when he was attacked. Two youth with their faces covered with pieces of clothes came on a bike and opened fired at him from a point blank range.

He received bullet injuries on his chest. The miscreants had fled the area on the motorbike before anyone could have realised what had taken place. Later, some local youth rushed to the spot and took him to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder, but suspect that old business rivalry could be the reason behind the crime. The police sent the body for an autopsy and initiated a search for the accused. Police would speak to the friends and family members of the victim to know whether he had got engaged in any altercation with someone in the recent past.
