Businessman held for attempting to murder wife

Police have arrested a city businessman for his alleged attempt to murder his wife. The incident happened at Parnashree area on Monday. Police said that the accused businessman Kishore Adhikari, a resident of Parnashree had stabbed his wife Moonmoon twice on Monday night following a quarrel in their house. As the incident happened in front of their teenage daughter, she had become traumatised after the incident.

Police came to know after interrogating the daughter that Kishore had stabbed his wife after she refused to give him Rs 20,000 which he demanded from her. A quarrel broke out as she refused to give the money following which the couple engaged in an altercation. The neighbours heard the quarrel but they did not intervene as it had become a day to day matter for the Adhikari family.

The accused fled the spot after the incident. It was the screaming of the daughter that attracted the attention of their neighbours who rushed to the spot and took the woman to hospital with serious injuries on her abdomen and back.

After interrogating the local people, police came to know that Kishore had a transport business and he used to own more than 30 vehicles including taxis, but for the last few years he had suffered some loss in the business.

The family was suffering some financial problems. The accused used to drink alcohol and beat up his wife quite often. The local people had also become fed up with the daily activities of the couple. He used to pressurise his wife and take money from her. When she used to refuse, he tortured her.

On Monday, the quarrel turned ugly when the accused brought a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her in the abdomen and her back. While the woman was screaming in pain, the accused took flight.

The victim’s daughter informed the matter to the local residents and they found the woman lying on the ground with her abdomen profusely bleeding. They rushed her to a nearby hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

After conducting a raid, police have arrested the accused from a guest house in Bishnupur. He has been booked under Section 307 of IPC. Police have started a probe.
