Businessman found dead in Raigunj

Police have recovered the body of a trader from a vat at the Panjipara area of Raigunj on Wednesday morning.

The victim Omprakash Lunabat, a resident of Subhashpally area of Dalkhola, had been missing since Tuesday morning after he left his house. In the afternoon, he had met one of his relatives near a rail gate in Dalkhola following which his mobile phone got switched off. 

As a result of this, the family members of the victim could not contact him despite repeated calls on his mobile number. The family members lodged a complaint in the local police station as they failed to get any trace of the victim. They contacted some other relatives to know if he had visited their places. All their efforts to trace the victim went in vain. 

Police started a search on Tuesday night but failed to find the victim. The local police station had contacted other police stations in the district to check if they had any clues about the missing businessman.

Early on Wednesday morning, some local residents first spotted the body lying in the vat and informed the police who in turn visited the spot and recovered the dead body. They sent the body for post mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the local businessman might have been throttled to death as the investigating officers have spotted some injury marks on his throat. They have started a probe to ascertain if the businessman had any business rivalry with anyone.

The family members of the victim had told the police that he was a good natured person and he did not have any rivalry with anybody in the area. Police, however, suspect that the victim might have been engaged in a quarrel that might have led to his murder. Police were interrogating some of the victim’s friends. Police came to know in the investigation that some people might have abducted and later killed the businessman. The investigating officers are yet to ascertain the reason behind the murder.
