Businessman commits suicide in Mohurkunja Park

A middle-aged businessman committed suicide inside Mohurkunja Park situated in the cultural complex of the city on early Monday morning.

It led to panic among the people who came for the morning walk in the park and hundreds of other people who come to the park from different parts of the city every day. Police said that they found the victim, Chandrasekhar Patra hanging from a tree in the park. They sent the body for an autopsy and initiated a probe in this connection.

The victim was a resident of East Midnapore and had come to the city on Sunday morning to visit his brother who was admitted to SSKM Hospital. After meeting his brother, he visited different places in the city and finally came to Mohurkunja.

The incident has raised questions about the security arrangement of the park. The police are yet to ascertain how the person had managed to stay back inside the garden on Sunday night, despite the on-duty security personnel repeatedly checking the premises.

Police suspect that the deceased was hiding behind any tree when the security personnel were inspecting the garden.
