Tata Power-DDL making Delhi streets brighter with LED lights

New Delhi: Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) is making Delhi streets brighter by replacing the existing High Pressure Sodium Vapour (HPSV) lamps and Semi–High Mast Light (SHML) with brighter and energy efficient LED lights.

Tata Power-DDL is executing the second phase of MCD's Street Light Project for municipal area of North MCD in partnership with Havells India installing LED lights in 104 wards of North Delhi Municipal Corporation area. The Company has already completed the first phase of the project within timelines with more than 85,000 street light points converted to LED lights. The work in the second phase is also progressing at a full pace in which more than 52,000 LED lights already replaced, taking the total to 1,37,000 points. The second phase is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

This project helps Tata Power-DDL in achieving an incredible reduction of demand of street lighting which coincides with peak load, thereby reducing the overall peak demand by more than 15 MW, translating into a considerable power saving.

Speaking about the initiative Sanjay Banga, CEO, Tata Power-DDL said, "We have always been at the forefront to provide better experience to our consumers while embracing and adopting new and innovative practices in the Utility space. The LED streetlight project is an important project which will result in better illumination of the roads for better safety while ensuring energy efficiency and savings of more than 15MW of peak demand."

For providing better lightings on the roads and flyovers, the company is also maintaining 10,000 new and efficient octagonal street light poles which have been recently installed by the PWD replacing the old poles. The company is also installing streetlights in new areas as well as areas which are not properly lit. Tata Power-DDL is working to ensure 100 per cent functionality of over 2 lakh streetlights in its area of operation.
