IOC invites bids for setting up 27K petrol pumps pan India

New Delhi: The largest fuel retailer, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) invited entrepreneurs across the country to set-up 27,000 more petrol pumps pan India through an official release on Thursday.

The OMC mentioned, "The country's largest downstream oil major has issued an advertisement for setting up about 27,000 petrol pumps pan India. Interested entrepreneurs may see the detail advertisement and brochure available in website, www.petrolpumpdealerchayan.in. For locations wise details up to district level, interested entrepreneurs may also visit Indian Oil website www.iocl.com and get state, city and district wise details advertised by the company."

Besides, the company has also relaxed the eligibility norms for the applicants of having suitable land at the advertised location or stretch this time. Notably, the applicants without land can also apply this time on a condition that "when called by IOC they should be able to offer land." A user-friendly online application has been introduced with a simplified manner, where only selected candidates would be asked to produce the required documents. Even the revised upper limit of age is 60 years for applicants now and educational qualification has been maintained as 10th passed.

All the Public sector oil companies have planned to allot about 65,000 petrol pumps across the country to nearly double the existing retail network. Apart from IOC, HPCL wants to set up 12,685 more outlets, and Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) 15,802 outlets. The OMCs are offered setting up maximum number of fuel retail outlets through dealerships in Uttar Pradesh (9,370), Maharashtra (6,765), Karnataka (5,024) , Gujarat (4,450), and Haryana (3,370), Bihar (2,951), Tamil Nadu (2,951), Andhra Pradesh (2,815), Odisha (2,636), West Bengal (2,242), Jharkhand (1,905), Kerala (1,730), and Assam (1,026), according to information provided by the OMCs on the 'Petrol Pump Dealer Chayan' website.

India has 63,674 fuel retail stations sofar- HPCL has 15,287 fuel pumps, BPCL has 14,593, IOC operates 27,377 fuel stations and ONGC/MRPL has 6 fuel pumps.

The oil ministry has also assured that the outlets will be constructed with the latest technology including automation and are expected to generate employment opportunities.
