Burundi invites Indian investment

Burundi, an East African nation, on Tuesday invited Indian businessmen to invest in its country in potential sectors such as energy, agriculture, mining and infrastructure and utilise their competitive advantages.

'The government is ready to support and develop these potentials, which are at the same time opportunities for Indian investors who may consider Burundi as their investment destination,' Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza said at a FICCI function.

He said his government's strategy is to offer a much better business environment to attract more investments starting with sectors like agriculture, energy, tourism, mining, infrastructure and information and communication technology.

Burundi is one of the few countries where almost all resources are yet to be explored, he added.

The Burundian president, who is on a three-day visit to India, is heading a 27-member delegation which includes both official and business delegates.
