Burdwan University V-C submits report on attacks

On February 26, some outsiders had attacked the students those were staging a demonstration and a day earlier properties of the university was damaged following disputes in results of the students of Arts stream.

In this connection Partha Chatterjee, the Education Minister, on Monday said that those were involved in such incident cannot be students. “They were outsiders and I feel that stringent action should be taken against them without seeing any colour,” said Chatterjee adding that there was logic behind the demand of the students but it doesn’t mean that someone will ransack the property of the varsity.

The report that the V-C of Burdwan University has been submitted to the State governments contains photographs showing the mob ransacking properties in the university. The report has been sent to the higher education secretary and he is going through it. The actual reason behind the entire incident will be ascertained.

It may be mentioned that the State Education Minister had asked the V-C to submit a detailed report in this connection after the incident.

The incident had led to an uproar as police had intervened to settle the matter of the university. Chatterjee had earlier clearly mentioned that he didn’t support the interference of police in any matter of any university. It may be recalled that the students had demanded timely and error free results.
