Burdwan blast case: Four JMB men nabbed for running terror camps

Dalim Sheikh, Motiur Rehman, Habibur Rehman and Ghiyasuddin Munshi, who were nabbed by National Investigation Agency sleuths on Tuesday night, were presented before a city court which sent them to the agency’s custody till February 3.

The NIA has so far arrested 16 people, mostly Bangladeshis, for the blast that took place at a house in Khagragarh in Burdwan killing two JMB militants and injuring another.

The agency said the investigation so far has revealed that the militant outfit had established its network in many districts -- particularly in Murshidabad, Nadia, Malda, Birbhum and Burdwan in Bengal, Barpeta in Assam, and Sahibganj and Pakur in Jharkhand.

“The investigation revealed that senior JMB members had established terrorist training centres and bomb-making units in Beldanga and Mukim Nagar in Murshidabad, Nanur in Birbhum and Khagragarh and Simulia in Burdwan,” the agency said.

According to the NIA, Dalim Sheikh was involved in setting up bases and hideouts and raising and collecting funds for his outfit.

He also used to provide tactical and material support to Bangladeshi members of the JMB in spreading its network in India.

Motiur Rehman, a close associate of Shakil Gazi who was killed in the blast, was the main person responsible for maintaining hideouts, training centres, bomb-making centres at Beldanga in Murshidabad, it said.

Habibur Rehman, a close associate of blast mastermind Sajid alias Sheikh Rahmatulla, used to maintain and run a terrorist training camp at the Mukimnagar madrassa in Murshidabad district.

Ghiyasuddin Munshi, who along with his wife had undergone JMB training, was engaged in providing hiding places and facilities to Bangladeshi members of the JMB so that they can sustain their terrorist activities.

Along with the four arrested militants, the court also sent Rejaul Karim, another key accused, to seven days’ custody of the NIA. Karim, from whose house 39 bombs were recovered days after the Burdwan blast, was arrested Jan 10 in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district.
