Burari case: Cops mull arresting Karuna’s other boyfriend

A day after 21-year-old school teacher Karuna Prajapati was stabbed to death by her lover Surendra Singh (34) in North Delhi’s Burari area, Delhi Police are planning to book Rohit (name changed), Karuna’s other boyfriend, under the section of abetment to murder as he had purposely sent a compromising pic of the duo (Karuna and him) to Surendra, just a day before the incident, sources said.
Not only this, but the police of North district are also trying to establish the identities of the mute-spectators with the help of CCTV footages.
Though they are not filing any case, but they all will be called to the police station for counseling, where they will be warned to be responsible when they see such act.
According to sources, during interrogation Surendra told police that in early September he learnt about the other affair of the girl with one Rohit. He made several threat calls to him and asked him to stay away from Karuna but he refused to do so claiming that Karuna herself wants to carry forward the relationship with him. “Rohit used to send him their pictures.
Just a day before the murder, Surendra met Karuna to confirm about her relationship with Rohit, but she denied. The conversation was recorded on phone that was later sent to Rohit. After which, Rohit sent him a picture of Karuna in a compromising position with him, that he had intentionally clicked after being warned by Surendra,” a source close to investigation said.
When Surendra forwarded that picture to Karuna, she allegedly abused him. But till Tuesday morning, the duo agreed to met each other at GTB Nagar Metro station. Millennium Post had earlier reported that while meeting at the Metro station.
Surendra snatched her SIM card and inserted into his phone. After retrieving the WhatsApp chats and finding obscene chats with Rohit and pictures sent to him, he became furious and intercepted her to kill.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that Karuna was on Facebook with two names — Karuna Prajapati and Kanishka Prajapati — on which she used to share her pictures with Surendra till August 29. She had mentioned that she was in relationship since 2012. But Surendra, who was active on Facebook in the name of Aditya AK, had started sharing depressing shayaris and statuses since September.
“Apart from the Facebook profiles, the initial CDR and the recent call logs show that they were very much in touch with each other before the incident. And Surendra was not a ‘stalker’ but a spurned lover,” said a senior police official.
