In an unprecedented outcome of attacks on Trinamool Congress workers, an MA student was shot dead when son of a Trinamool Congress leader was targeted at Behrampore in Murshidabad. In two other incidents, a former panchayat member of Trinamool Congress leader was stabbed to death in Nadia and a party worker was shot at in Malda.
Police said that on Friday night the 23-year-old MA student Masarul Hossain alias Suman went to meet his friend who is the son of Trinamool Congress leader Jalal Sheikh. The victim, who is a resident of Hajarpur, often used to go to Kalabagan in Behrampore to meet his friends.
The incident took place when the victim was returning home riding pillion in the motorbike of the son of the Trinamool Congress leader. The miscreants, whom the police suspected to have been backed by Congress, opened fired to kill the leader’s son. The bullet, however, missed the target and hit Suman.
Both of them fell on the road. Local people gathered at the spot. But the accused had managed to flee. Suman was declared brought dead when taken to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital.
The incident led to tension in the area and local people staged a demonstration demanding arrest of the accused. Police initiated a case in this connection but yet to arrest anyone. In Nadia, Trinamool Congress leader Ratan Das, who was also the former gram panchayat member Billo village, was stabbed to death at Nakasipara in Krishnagar. The incident took place on Friday night.
Some miscreants attacked Das when he was sitting in an open playground. The victim had failed to run away as he was attacked suddenly. They beat him up with logs and bamboo sticks till he fell unconscious. They stabbed him to assure his death.
The miscreants fled when local people rushed to the spot. The neighbours staged a demonstration when police reached the spot demanding arrest of the accused as early as possible. In Malda, Aizul Sheikh, who is a Trinamool Congress worker, was shot at by some unidentified miscreants near Naoda Jodupur in Kaliachak.
